About this client/child: Oliver, 19, is an active, happy and cheerful young man with a great sense of humour. He enjoys listening to music, watching Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol, trips out on public transport and top of his hobby list, is visiting places with Windmills. Oliver sustained a brain injury following a misdiagnosis of meningitis after birth. As a result, he has a complicated neurodevelopment disorder which presents as a Learning Disability, Hydrocephalus with a VP shunt in situ, epilepsy (controlled via medication), ADHD, right side Hemiplegia, reduced mobility, and expressive communication difficulties. Oliver struggles with self-regulation and can at times display behaviors that may challenge. He lives with his father; his mother and grandparents visit very regularly, he is very much a family man. We are building up Oliver’s care team gradually to provide 2:1 support.

Overview of role: Oliver’s Support Worker / PA will assist with his activities of daily living, planning and attending activities/outings both at home and out in the community. Oliver likes to plan and be organised, he needs his Support Worker / PA to assist him in this area and would like support with cooking meals and preparing healthy snacks and drinks. Due to Oliver’s VP shunt, he always needs close monitoring in case the shunt becomes compromised (further information available at the interview). You will continually promote Oliver’s independence and support him with his self-help skills and regulation. At times Oliver can present with behaviours that may challenge, therefore, it is essential that you have experience in this area. Light household duties related to Oliver are included in the role and responsibilities.

Who this job would suit: A confident, energetic, and patient Support Worker / PA with a great sense of humour, plenty of banter, and someone who is happy and positive. If you consider yourself an advocate with a passion for supporting clients to reach their potential – this is the role for you! A driver with their own car is essential and you must have previously supported a young adult with epilepsy and behaviours.

What’s great about this job: This is a permanent part-time contract with ongoing training and supervision. Oliver is a pleasure to work with, he loves to laugh and make jokes. You will be valued in your role and really be able to make a difference to a young man’s life. He is at the heart of a supportive and welcoming family.
