It is with a heavy heart I am selling Doris, my 1993 VW T4 2-litre petrol Transporter Trident converted from new by Autosleeper. If you want a sorted T4, these Tridents are great as they aren’t an old knocked-about works van that have then been fitted out by someone with varying skill sets. I always think that when you are mixing electricity/water and gas you should be assured that it has been put together professionally. Doris has just 130,000 miles on the clock and water pump and belts were changed last year. The early T4 vans can have heavy steering so in 2022 she was fitted with electric power steering which works like a dream. These short wheel based T4’s are a great size, making parking easy as they fit into normal car park spaces and as they come in under 5m they are cheaper on ferries and festival pitches. A Tridents build quality is great and comes with a gas cooker and grill with 2 full gas bottles, loads of cupboards, even a small wardrobe, 3-way fridge and big pantry. There are two tables that can be stored away, one for the swivel passenger seat and the other bigger one for the rear seat. My seats have been recovered in black leatherette and look awesome, so much better than the original skin coloured fabric which shows its age. I have a lovely big wooden steering wheel that looks and feels great. It has a short shift modification with an extension gear stick. After owning several T4’s I have concluded that a fixed roof is too low and bends me over all the time and an elevated roof is nice but slow and fiddly when pulling over for a quick coffee. The permanent hi-top means she is ready all the time with loads of headroom. The rear seat sleeps two and the hi-top will sleep 2 small children. There are 4 full seatbelts. The wind-out awning is in very good condition and if you need more it has a very new awning tent is included which has the space for at least another 2 to sleep. There's a built-in sink with water tank and electric pump. There's a hot/cold night air heater blower. She looks pretty with alloy wheels, a useful towbar and upgraded face-off blue tooth stereo with 4 speakers and a couple of tweeters. Doris is extremely reliable and never let me down, in fact I have more faith in driving Doris up to Scotland than I do my 2013 car! The two top windows are sealed shut and don’t leak. She has her normal horn which are poorly located under the van and fill up with water, so I have relocated mine into the dry engine bay. I have also fitted lorry dual horns for when you really need to be heard. It has an immobiliser and a secret fuel pump switch so even if thieves get in and beat the immobiliser, they must figure out the switch before she is going anywhere. The headlight bulbs have been upgraded so you can see in the dark. I have also put in a new Porta Potty that has never been used. Includes levelling ramps and metal window inserts that allow air movement and security you don’t get just by leaving the window open. Doris has black out curtains all round and has a further cute black out eye mask for the windscreen. She also has a full cover for storage. Doris has been very well cared for, drives perfectly, and will take you effortlessly anywhere. There is the odd bit of paint work or bubble that could benefit for a brush up however I have never got around to, and it hasn’t worsened. She is not in show room condition but as a 30-year-old gal she scrubs up very well and turns heads. I love Doris however with the addition of more grandchildren I need to get a bigger camper. I have past MOT’s and the V5 in my name. If you want a usable, fun, reliable and good looking classic T4, then Doris could be for you.
