My story
Meet Velkey! His name comes from the Czech meaning for large/big. Velkey is a sweet, 18 month old great dane, who didn't have the best start to life, but has been living a spoiled life for the last few months. Velkey rides well in the car, is good with kids and other dogs large and small, and even cats. He is house trained, and walks well on a leash. He has been worked with by a trainer. He knows "sit", "down", "heel", "stay", "crate", "place" and even "paw" and when making his food, if you tell him "no" he will leave it until you tell him it's ok! He also has a goofy side! He loves to play with his dog fosters and loves to play with toys (he prefers soft, squeaky or crinkle toys). He's not a fan of his crate, but he will go in one. If you are home often, he may not really need one, but a collassal crate should be used on the beginning. He's a little nervous at first but warms up quickly. He needs a firm but gentle owner. He does have some separation anxiety, so a home with other dogs will suit him well. In true Great Dane fashion, he loves to curl up on your bed or couch! His foster says, "If you're looking for a sweet, big dog to spoil, Velkey is your guy!"
