Winston is a puppy mill survivor who came through the worst, but still loves humans despite the fact that none have shown him any kindness. Despite his rough start in life, he has a beautiful heart and is a very sweet and affectionate boy. Thanks to great vet care, and lots of TLC from his fosters, he is on the road to a better life. Winston spent his life in a cage as a puppy mill dog used for breeding. He suffered trauma to his right eye, causing blindness. He also had little body fat, hair loss, urine burns on his paws, and loss of muscle mass. After a visit with our vet and our ophthalmologist, it was determined his eye injury is no longer painful, but strictly cosmetic and causes him no pain. He doesn't need any eye drops, and won't need any other further medical care for it. His other health 'issues' are all very fixable and he's improving every day. Winston's tongue constantly hangs out, which is not only cute, but gives him character. Considering all he's been through, Winston is a very happy and lovable pug. His favorite things to do are snuggle, be with people, and of course eat. In his foster home, he lives with other dogs and a cat, and gets along with all of them. Winston is house trained but like most pugs, won't set foot outside in the rain or snow. The hair on his chest is starting to grow back, and he is gaining weight. Since he was crated most of his life, Winston came into our care with atrophy in his back legs. Atrophy is when the muscles become weak from lack of movement. But he is getting stronger every day, and his mobility has improvement dramatically now that he gets to walk and run at his leisure. He is also on a supplement to help him get his strength back. Soon, Winston will have no physical 'scars' from his past life. Like most dogs, Winston is forgiving to people and still loves everyone he meets despite the fact that he was never treated with any kindness by humans prior to rescue. At just around 7 years old, he has a long life left to live, with lots of love to give for the lucky family to adopt him.
His adoption fee is $350, which covers the cost of routine vetting, rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, spay/neuter surgery, heartworm testing, my microchip, monthly heartworm prevention, monthly flea/tick prevention, and any transport costs if applicable. You can save animals like this one by becoming a foster home for a dog in need! Fosters are like way stations between high kill shelters and forever homes. We need fosters so that we can save dogs before they are euthanized at the shelters. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please check out our information about fostering on our website: /foster_faq.html
