WildChild is one of 3 kittens born to CrazyMama. (see her posting here too) His two littermates have found homes, but WildChild, who is very wild and semi-feral, and his mother are still available.
The entire family came to us when the kittens were only a few days old. They had been surrendered to the city shelter because their human family said CrazyMama had become vicious following the birth of her babies. We took her and the kittens from the shelter, and found that the family's assessment was not far off.
She would attack us and be wilder than most of the feral cats we trap.
We put
CrazyMam and her family in a small bathroom where they were away from all noise, human activity, and other animals, but she did NOT calm down overnight as we had expected.
Nor did she calm down over the following week. Finally we put a Feliway diffuser in the room. Whether it was the pheromones being diffused in such a small area,
or perhaps because she had lost interest in terrorizing us, within 2 days she was noticeably calmer and after a few more days we could touch her.
Another couple weeks and she had the run of the bedroom and bath. She now rubs against our legs when we enter the room and invites pets and attention.
Two of her kittens were quickly socialized and adopted out. But WildChild is carrying on the family tradition of hostility to humans.
We would like for WildChild, semi-feral though he is, to be adopted with his mother.
We think they would do well in a workshop, storefront, office, or similar setting where they would not be expected to be lap cats. CrazyMama would like the attention in such a setting, while WildChild could progress at his own pace.
