Wilbur's story
Wilbur is a shy but sweet cat. He did well for his exam and tolerated all handling. Wilbur loves being pet and is very affectionate. He is still pretty nervous being here and will hiss if startled. However, once you start talking softly to him, he calms down and comes up for attention. Wilbur also likes to talk a lot. He has lived with dogs, cats and children. He tends to be frightened by dogs and bossy towards other cats. Wilbur might do best as an only pet. He has done very well with children ages 4yrs+. Please allow 3-6 months for adjustment time.
When Wilbur gets into his new home, he should start out in a single room (i.e. the bedroom, office) that still gets a lot of foot traffic but isn't as overwhelming as opening him up to the entire house. It is very important to visit with him multiple times a day (first starting by just talking to him and gradually working your way up to petting him and coaxing him out with treats). He will most likely hide at first, and should stay in the single room until he is actively coming out and seeking attention on his own. Once Wilbur is adjusted and seems relaxed in the single room, you can slowly introduce him to the rest of the house and the other pets.
***Wilbur is currently on a C/D diet due to Cystitis and Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (see attached handout). He should remain on this diet unless your personal vet says otherwise.***
