White House silver coin & First-Day-Cover w/stamps (FDC5) $45
Attention collectors, coin & stamp buffs & philatelists!!!
You are looking at a rare collectible piece; a one-of-a-kind silver coin with a commemorative 1975 First-Day-Cover of ?The Whitehouse? which was released to mark the 175th anniversary of erecting a legitimate dwelling for the President of the United States, The White House. The cornerstone for the structure was originally placed on October 13, 1792, but the building didn?t become the official presidential residence until November, 1800. This mint coin is part of a series of Medallic Postal Cover, combining historical US stamps with limited edition medals that are postmarked on a date of historic significance.
On November 1, 1800, John Adams became the first president to take residence in the building. During Adams' second day in the house, he wrote a letter to his wife Abigail, containing a prayer for the house. Adams wrote:
?I pray Heaven to bestow the best of blessings on this House, and all that shall hereafter inhabit it. May none but honest and wise men ever rule under this roof.?
During the war or 1812, the British troops set fire to the Capitol Building. When the war was over, the house was rebuilt and repainted white to cover the smoke marks and stains. People began to call it the White House as it is called today.
On the front side of the coin is a portrait of the White House with the words ?THE BEST OF BLESSINGS ON THIS HOUSE? on top. The back side has the inscription ?THE WHITE HOUSE ISSUE NO.29, Washington, DC?. In quotations it also has ?A BUILDING OF STABILITY & STRENGTH?.
This Commemorative Medal is sealed in the original package. Both medal and stamps are in excellent condition ready to be included into any assembly of stamp and coin collections. It would also be a great gift for a serious philatelist, hobbyist, or the beginning coin & stamp collector.
