So I took up the trumpet, with predictable results for me-- a basement full of horns. Now I need space, and I’m coming to terms with the fact that I’m no brass repairman, so some impulse buy projects are going on the auction block, FOR CHEAP! All deserve a little TLC, maybe you are the one to give it!Here’s a BUESCHER MODEL 9 Bb TRUMPET, serial 12799x, with more patina then you can shake a stick at in its 100 year existence. I bought it because it came with an old Keefer mouthpiece, and when you want an old Keefer mouthpiece, you take what comes. Buescher always made a solid horn, so I threw one drop of thick oil into each valve, and miraculously enough, it played! All the slides move, except the High-Pitch change slide doesn’t separate from the crook at present. The 2nd valve slide has some issues: 1) the sleeves have come off the horn, but they are removable from the slide itself, and they fit right back on; 2) the slide has some chips out of it, and has been further “repaired” by dripping solder onto it. Because of the finish issues and slide issues, this is probably best as a parts horn, but the short valve throw and lively small-bore response when played lets you see what was and could be again.
