Hey audiophiles, big speaker fans, sound studio perfectionists, history buffs, churches, old time theaters....the classic VOICE OF THE THEATER speakers.
Comparisons:
http://milwaukee.Americanlisted.org/ele/15.html His prettier, his much smaller than mine but listed at $2500
http://madison.Americanlisted.org/ele/94.html Look at the PICS on this link. This is the exact same model...mine is missing one original driver[replaced with alternative]....but look his price is $1450
/audio-production/pro-audio/2003/altec-lansing-legacy-a7-loudspeaker/ yep....$4000 new
Think you can live with a non-original driver or pick one up later off ebay for easy screw on at a savings of THOUSANDS? And think...you don't have to pay MORE for expensive $shipping?
I thought so........but you don't find these every day on LOCAL Americanlisted...that is for SURE! So if you want to pick up a pair without having them expensively shipped from ????, now's your chance.
A PAIR of BIG cabinets with internal original Altec Lansing Speaker in each: size 30x24x42 tall
A Pair of Horns. Size 23x23x11
NOTE NOTE!: The Horns have one original Altec driver and one NOT original music driver.....these are easily replaced
Pre-wired with big speaker wire.
Yep...these are the BIG cabinets. Big cabinets made solid but not a "finished look". Horns go on top. Black in color...not bad shape. [I can send pics.] Logo on side of Cabinet.
We picked up a trick years ago and that was to replace the horn driver's with a more modern horn driver....easy to do. You can get "more musical" drivers less susceptible to diaphragm cracking. So the one that went bad we swapped with a more musical one. I can't find the other original driver....but IF I do its easy to replace the diaphragms if you want "all original". But frankly I dare anyone to tell the difference....or you could just get another musical driver and go "matched set" that way.
There are two crossovers in the big cabinet but one was rebuilt if I recall.----however...it uses good quality inductor's and caps. I couldn't tell the difference between the two and neither could anyone else.
Here's the background on these speakers. Years ago they had movie theaters like the old one's downtown with multiple levels--BIG!!. They wanted CLEAN sound and the amplifiers at the time were like 35 to 50 watts....so not much power. And mono.
So they needed VERY efficient speakers and Altec Lansing's were it!!! Hence the name. They would park ONE behind the screen and FILL the place with sound. Yep!!! You just can't believe it till you see it...err....hear it.
Why do I tell you this? Because they are very efficient....so if you're some Punk Rock Band looking for LOUD DISTORTION SOUND, don't buy these--you'll blow them out with a 300watt driven heavy clipped amp.
Or if you're a Bose guy who got sold the $ bill-of-goods by that Bose Phd bull....you'll probably blow them out with a distorted sound.
However....if you're looking for simply the BEST speakers and you have a nice clean amp with some good transient-response, you're in for a treat.
Please...no low ball CL scuz or those wanting me to split them up.. I've had these awhile and I can keep them until someone appreciates them.
Put in ANY response "SPEAKER VOT" that way I can weed out the scammers.
So to Summarize you get:
TWO BIG ORIGINAL CABINETS WITH LABELS ON THE SIDE
IN EACH CABINET A GENUINE ALTEC SPEAKER
IN EACH CABINET A CROSSOVER....one original w/ its control and one rebuilt w/o a control
TWO HORNS
ONE HORN DRIVER ORIGINAL
ONE HORN DRIVER NON ORIGINAL MUSICAL DRIVER
WIRED WITH HEAVY DUTY WIRE with BANANA plugs on end....VERY VERY EASY HOOKUP
