Vintage WWII Trench Shell Case Vase (#261) $55
Unique gift for a person who has everything?
You are looking at a rare WW II 37mm trench art shell casing, turned into a charming hand scribed flower vase. The shell was from a Soviet Anti-aircraft gun fired sometime around 1939. This is truly a remarkable handmade piece of art and a very unique part of our history. The shell case vase features a nice hand scribed illustration of a flower in a vase with a number in branches and leaves against a shiny bass background.
Artist also inscribed in Hungarian ?EMLEKUL PISTATOL? translated to English meaning ?remembering you from Stephen?. The story behind this is unknown, but it could have been a gift from a solider named Pista (Stephen), to a special someone over a half of century ago.
Based on the year 1939 on the shell, being a Soviet ammunition casing and with Hungarian writing, the shell most likely came from the Hungarian/Russian front during World War II since Hungary was part of the regime trying to hold off the Russian invasion.
The shell case vase has been around for many years and has no rust or corrosion, just light wear from age, use, and storage (see photos). The mild tarnishing would clean up fine in a few minutes with brass polish if the new shiny look is desired. It would be a nice gift for a collector of WW II souvenirs or pieces or can even be a fine decoration with flowers in any home.
Don?t miss out, another impressive addition to a collection of war artifacts or it could be a great conversation piece.
