Classic George Washington Engraving Lithograph (1 Vintage George Washington Engraving Lithograph. "Washington." Subtitled "From the Celebrated Picture in Fanieul Hall, Boston." After Gilbert Stuart's full-length portrait of Washington at Dorchester Heights (1806). Inscribed by Thomas Kelly, after Gilbert Stuart 1836. The Battle of Dorchester Heights led to 2 substantial "firsts" for George Washington: his first campaign versus British forces and his very first success in the American Revolutionary War. Looking for to ease Boston from an eleven-month British blockade, Washington marched his men and 59 cannons to the top of Dorchester Heights on the night of March 4, 1776. In so doing, he literally took the high ground and outmaneuvered the British. This print, based on an 1806 painting by Gilbert Stuart, records the moment of Washington's success at Dorchester Heights, March 17, 1776. I acquired this Washington inscribing lithograph from a Boston antiquarian over 20 years earlier. The lithograph is 15.75" x 23.5" and was produced in 1836 at Boston. It appears the white borders of the lithograph have actually been cut away. No tears in lithograph, but starting to reveal some age. New frame but period glass. Overall frame size is 23.25"x 31.25". The frame is chipped on the bottom center. A fantastic addition to any George Washington collection.Dorchester Heights, March 17, 1776.
