Vintage Gentleman Figurine by Coventry 5015 B (#236) $22
This is an elegant vintage collectible porcelain figurine of a gentleman dressed in the mid 1700s style clothing. The figurine is wearing tight fitting powder blue britches, stiff flared silk or wool chartreuse green coat that parts in the back down to about the knees, with a cut away double collar trimmed in gold. He also has knee-high white stockings, leather black shoes, a light blue cravat and a vest. Long ago, this way the way people expressed their social position, attitudes, and class.
This is most likely a Carrie Orr Daum design and was sold by Coventry Ware Pottery, Inc., Ohio in the mid 1940s. In 1936, she named her studio Coventry Ware, Inc., as it was located in Coventry Township. Due to stiff competition in the ceramic market after the war (WWII), the Coventry Company went out of business and closed their doors in the mid-1960s.
The Coventry trademark and Made in U.S.A are stamped on the bottom, as well as 5015 B.
Coventry pieces are now owned and collected by people from all walks of life all over the world. This would be a fine piece to add to your collection or perfect for display.
It is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks or repairs. See pictures for details.
