Vintage Fine Quality Nylon String Classical or Spanish...
Oct 22, 2024
Description

This is a tough one for me...*I recently came into this vintage nylon string guitar at an estate & do know a finely made instrument when I see one. Unfortunately, this guitar no longer has an inner label if it ever had one (really no signs of adhesive in this area). *I really prefer to know an instrument's maker before I list one so I don't end up giving away some holy grail specimen out of ignorance, but after exhaustive online research, I could find nothing definitive. It is unique in that it has a shaped fingerboard extension to the 19th fret, which I have seen only on higher quality vintage guitars of this type. Please see the scanned image for detailed measurements.I can make no absolute claims re wood used, but here's my best guess based on appearance:1. Back and sides appear to be Brazilian rosewood.2. Neck appears to be rosewood.3. Top looks like spruce to me.4. Fingerboard appears to be rosewood or possibly ebony with some lighter grain near body. The guitar has some cracks that need patched at the following areas:1. An approximately 7" long crack at side going from back (strap pin area) to upper bout area of side.2. 3 fine cracks to top on treble side near bridge.3. There is an area of the binding above where a strap pin would be located that extends approximately 3" in either direction from center that seems to be lifted slightly. I can really just feel slightly raised binding here, so not sure.4. 4.5" crack to back, lower bout treble side.Positive points: The guitar is still very playable with low action (about 4mm at 12th fret) & sounds great in spite of cracks. I installed new strings, so action may go up slightly once they break in fully. I chose not to put under full tension so the next owner can inspect the guitar before doing so. There is only the slightest bit of bowing to top. I added a pic with a straight edge on top to show this. A very small bit of light could barely peek through. No serious lifting of bridge and no gaps at neck heel/body area. There is a small area at the back of the bridge where there is a thin gap. This looks to have occurred when it took a light hit to create the top cracks in this area. The binding is very intricate with what looks to be 4 layers and entire soundhole rosette is 100% inlaid.A few of the tuners have slightly bent shafts, but not bad enough to need replacing.I've done my best to note all, but please make some allowance for something really minor that may have eluded my eye. This is a playable project guitar and is sold AS-IS & not returnable since needs some repair, so please be sure to ask questions if anything not clear.I just posted the price as a starting point as this is a make offer type listing. Guitar will be shipped to the US Lower 48 only via UPS Ground in an older, but sound semi-hard case. Shipping charge is $50.00.Thanks for taking the time to read all and if anyone can give me some verifiable info on this guitar that I can pass on to interested parties, it would be much appreciated.
