Silver and Brass Music Shop is a brick-and-mortar brass instrument restoration and repair shop located in Carson City, NV. For more information about our business, please feel free to visit our Ebay Profile at /usr/silver_brass_music Here is a vintage (serial number 758029) F. E. Olds & Son "Conn 6D clone" double french horn. This instrument's internal wrap and valve cluster are very similar to the Conn model 6D. While Conn 6Ds of this period were being built in the midwest, this horn was made in California. The horn is in good condition and plays well. The valves move well and the slides all move of course. As for the aesthetic condition of the instrument, there are some small dings and pings as well as fairly significant etching, pitting, and scratching throughout the horn. The surface etching in the brass is a side effect of the horn being stored for a very long period. The bell engraving reads: “F.E.OLDS & SON/ FULLERTON/ CALIF.” The minor flaws are visible in the pictures, and none of them affect the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop, and repaired to full playability. This horn is not lacquered; therefore fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely "raw brass" patina over time. This instrument comes with a somewhat worn case, and a mouthpiece for play-testing purposes. How the horn plays: The horn has a full, warm sound with a smooth, even tone. The horn is open and responsive. All registers of the horn speak well and play fluidly. The Bb and F side timbre and intonation match well. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop710 N. Curry St. Carson City, NV89703Unfortunately it is against Ebay's policies for us to include contact information in our listings, but if you have any questions at all about one of our horns please feel free to send a message.
