Vintage, 100+ years REX Riveter Punch Tool (#246)
Attention antique tool collectorscheck this out!
This is a very nice vintage REX hand rivet press punch tool formulated out of cast iron over 100 years ago. It was patented Oct. 9th, 1900 which is marked on the base of the tool. In addition, there is the number 27 on the body and 28 on the handle of the riveter. The base has several slots for bolting the riveter to a workbench for stability during use.
It was found in the barn of my father- in-laws dads tool box in Boulder, Colorado. He most likely used this tool for riveting harness saddles/girth, halters, straps and leather products. In my research these types of tools were also used in the automobile industry to rivet brake linings and clutch bands for tractors and cars such as the old Ford Models A & Ts, etc., as well as other leather interior products.
This tool has been used over the many years and shows its character, but it is in good condition with no breaks, cracks or repairs and will display well. The spring return on the bottom part works fine and top and bottom line-up nicely. It would make a great gift for a dcor piece or an addition to any antique tool collection.
