My story
Hi, my name is Samson. I am an Orange/White neutered male Brittany. My foster parents say I’m one of the most quiet and well-behaved Brittanys they’ve ever met! They say I have a wonderful nature, I’m adorable (of course!), and sometimes I’m a little mischievous (more about that later). If you’re looking for a barking guard dog, I’m not your guy! I’m a 7-yr-old sweetheart that weighs in at a trim 37 lbs to 40 lbs. I’ve come to understand my name, respond well to voice commands, and have undergone basic obedience training. I know how to sit, and I am working on staying when I’m told! But if you let me, I’ll follow you everywhere (yes, even there). I’m really good at being housebroken (whatever that means), I enjoy car rides, and I sleep well through the night. I’m not a big snuggler (I’ll do it for a while) but I do love undivided attention and getting my pets!
While at my foster home I’ve gotten much better at walking with my harness, although a firm hand is needed to keep me from pulling (I have a Brit nose!). Let me tell you, though, slip leads are a joke! I can slither out of them or chew my way through them in nothing flat! You see, I have two bad habits. First, while I am “crate trained,” I enjoy it a lot more when it’s my idea. In fact, I spend a lot of time in my open crate, and even eat my meals there! But if you leave me in my crate while you’re gone, I will have some separation anxiety, and I’m extremely clever in devising ways to possibly break out. In the past I used my teeth to pry crates open, and that’s why only one of my four canine teeth is complete and whole!
Second, you need to be aware that I am quick as a hiccup and super-fast! If there’s a full, open suitcase I can empty it so fast it will make your head spin! And if you leave a door cracked open, I’ll be gone in a flash! My foster parents say that you’ll need a secure physical 6 ft privacy fence, but you need to make sure that your fence doesn’t have any weak spots (especially the gate). I’m an excellent digger and will exploit any and all opportunities to run!
When I am not running, I’m the ideal companion. I enjoy treats and am sometimes interested in squeaky toys. I get along very well with my foster brother; we love to run in circles around the backyard! I haven’t met any humans I don’t like, but I honestly don’t know how I feel about cats (what are those?)
