Description

  My story

Jackson-is a Brittany/Red Heeler Mix, almost 3 yrs old, almost 45 lbs, healthy, utd on all vaccines, hw & tick neg.  On HW and FT Prevention.  Housebroken.

Jackson came to my home on his journey to find his forever home.  He has had a hard life for a 2–3-year-old and picked up heart worms on the way ( he has been treated and is on preventative now).  He is filled with joy for new beginnings and so our journey began.  He is one of those dogs that is overwhelmed when you come home to him.  He shows so much happiness.

My grandson named him “Jackson Playz” and Jackson does love to play but he is a diamond in the rough and needs to be reminded to be gentle. He loves to have his toys thrown for him and will bring them back, but we are still working on “drop it”

Jackson needs a 5' plus physical fence and yard.  He can jump quite high and though he hasn’t tried to escape in some time, he is able to clear a 4-foot fence. He is loyal and his ideal family would like to take long walks and give constant love.

He was very nervous when I first got him, but now he only shows nervousness when changes in his environment, small children and thunderstorms.  He was a nervous car rider but has become a lover of car rides. We are currently working on his ability to exit a car in a courteous manner.

Cats - Currently he thinks cats are for chasing, but we have a command of “no cats” which he obeys fairly well.

Socializing - He seems to love almost all other dogs, and on our walks (the only time I have seen him interact) he is waggy and wants to meet all other dogs and people.

Nighttime - Jackson loves sleeping with you and is a great cuddler. In bed he will curl up under your arm and sleep the whole night through.

Sit – Jackson will sit promptly on command for a snack. When trying to get him to sit to attach a lead he seems to forget what the word means and lays down. I haven’t figured this out, but we are working on sit and stay.

Crate – He will crate easily, and I have left him for 4-5 hours.  He doesn’t like the crate as he spent a lot of time there in his other life so please consider using it modestly.

Contact Melinde Waddle at macgammy@gmail.com and/or Nancy Walker at nwalker@capecod.net  for more information after you have filled out the application. The adoption fee to adopt Jackson in Houston, TX is $325  to offset his vetting and to allow NBRAN to rescue more of these wonderful pets in need.

Transportation can be arranged up 1400 miles with the adopter being responsible for at least the last 100 miles.

Jackson was heartworm positive and now has been deemed healthy and ready for his forever home.
