Turkish silk carpet, 100% silk on silk, 90 knots/sqcm, 100% handmade. It is 153cm x 96cm or 60" x 37". It it called a "family prayer rug." This carpet is of very fine quality and only about 1/8" thick - it's meant for wall display. I personally purchased it in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1986 for SR8500.00. or $2266.00. It was an antique then and I know fine quality Turkish silk carpets do not depreciate - they go up in value with time. I have not had it officially appraised, but I did contact the dealer via email about 2 years ago and was told it would be worth around $5000.00 - I just want my money back and this is a heck of a deal for someone. I have the certificate and receipt. I believe it is from the Hereke region of Turkey just east of Istanbul, but I have never been able to find a matching pattern to confirm exactly from where it came. I'm pretty sure there are only two regions in Turkey that produce 100% silk, handmade rugs. It has 6 patterns that are repeated twice, I'm not sure what they mean, but it's finely detailed with bright colors.
