My story
This pretty girl with green eyes is Tinsel. She was found November 2012 with a broken tail which was amputated. Due to the location of the break, Tinsel has damage to the nerves that control her bladder and bowels, therefore, she is unable to empty either on her own. She has to have her bladder and bowels manually expressed two times a day by her dedicated foster mom. She is expressed over the toilet, and her bum wiped with a tissue...takes one minute. Note that her foster mom has limited medical training, but did learn how to manage this technique that Tinsel has adapted.
Tinsel is a sweet kitty, and rarely puts up a fuss. Sometimes, she will go to the litter box and dig a hole in the litter and stand there. She knows she is supposed to use it, but her parts just are not working.
Tinsel easily accepts two liquid medications that she receives one time a day. One helps the motility in the digestive track, the other stimulates muscular contractions in the bladder to help the bladder empty and to increase urination. Tinsel loves her special prescription canned and dry diet that helps to keep crystals and stones at bay.
Tinsel is a happy, playful, loving kitty, full of spunk and personality! She loves fleece blankets, snoozing in her favorite chair, laser lights, track-ball toys, and any canned and dry food. Her injuries have not affected her mobility. She takes a bit to warm up to other kitties, but is fast to warm up to her human friends. Tinsel has not had any reaction to the dogs who live in the foster home. She does not mind having her claws clipped. It will take a very special person to love and care for Tinsel.
In the photos, Tinsel is shown wearing Fancy Pants 4 Pets as she used to be a bit incontinent. However, for the past several years, she does not need to wear them as long as she is expressed on a regular basis.
