My story
This beautiful, blue pit bull is named Tilly. Her story is typical of many dogs on the reservation. She is approximately 3 years old and has lived most of her life on the end of a chain. In her short time on this earth she has birthed 3 litters of puppies because her people did not bother to take her to one of the many free spay / neuter clinics that are offered on the Navajo Nation. Her previous owner provided this background on her. "We used to have a male pit bull and he was her boyfriend. That's why we took her in - because he wanted her. They had puppies and we gave them away. We had to give the puppies away. The male pit died unexpectedly. After he died, she wouldn't eat. She got pregant again and we gave those puppies away too. This summer she got pregnant again and 2 of the puppies died and we gave two away." The rescue offered to take the entire litter when we became aware of the situation but sadly, only one puppy remained when we went to pick them up. Tilly is her new name because she didn't have one at her old home. One of our local helpers went to see Leotie every day while we were working on a ride for her. Here is what she told her. "I talked to her & stroked her head & body. She looks so tired. Poor Mama pittie sure had a rough Rez life. I told her to hang in there with us. Told her some people care & want her. She just stared into my eyes, afraid to have hope."
Tilly arrived at her temporary foster home on Sunday, Sept 17th and seems so grateful. Her eyes light up when she sees her foster mom and she has been kind and well behaved. She met the other dogs on leash and did good! We will have more updates this week!
