Tikanni's story
COURTESY POST - Tikkani is a courtesy adoption post for our friends at Adams County Animal Shelter. Serious inquiries only, please email Keith at [email protected] and Talia Heit [email protected].
This very shy boy, Tikanni, is only 4 years old and had been running loose for almost a year before he was brought into the shelter. He's currently staying at Adams County Animal Shelter until placement can be found. He will be neutered and up to date on vaccinations before adoption. He weighs only 69 lbs now and a little underweight. Tikanni is extremely shy and fearful, and needs northern-breed experienced owners. 7' fencing with lean-ins is necessary as this boy is very smart and high escape risk. Someone who is around a lot - i.e. retired, works at home, etc. - would be perfect for this boy. He has made such great strides and is getting braver every day working with the shelter's trainer and he needs an owner who can continue to help him build confidence!
With daily excercise, structure and continued training, we believe that Tikanni can becomme his best Tikanni self. He does walk calmly around other new dogs but will be defensive if they get too close to him. He may have had some bad experiences on the street so some socializing is highly recommended. We will not place him in a home with small dogs, cats or children. A calm household is required. Tikanni does walk nicely on leash, doesn't pull and responds well to corrections. He is most likely housetrained as he does not like to soil his kennel. He will likely always be an escape risk, so he should always be on leash with martingale collar. He has had some rough treatment in the past so a gentle, calm and assertive handler would be best for this boy so he can learn to trust again. Tikkani does appear to be in good health. Tikanni is a very sweet dog and will make a great companion for the right home. He is very trusting of people but shy and frightened at the same time. Tikanni will be released to Rescue only so if you think you are a good match for this boy please contact Keith at [email protected] and Talia Heit [email protected] at Adams County Animal Shelter
