Description

  Tiger's story

Tiger is a low-key, 5 year old Labrador. He has a rare, brindle coat; giving him the appearance of a Bengal Tiger. He was found traumatized at a construction site where he would find refuge in the eve- nings; only to get physically kicked out every morning by the workers. When I picked up Tiger as a foster around 2 months ago, I had to physically pick him up because he didn't want to move from his kennel. When I got Tiger home, he was on Prozac for depression and would always look for some place to hide. I just let him be and within a couple days he was soon exploring the house and back- yard and getting comfortable with his environment. The only time I'd interact with him was when I fed him and every few hours I'd lead him outside on a leash to let him relieve himself and explore the backyard. Within a week or so, he was off the Prozac and interacting, sometimes snuggling up to me. About a month in, I also took in two 18 month old female Labrador siblings. Besides a few nervous growls from Tiger when they wanted to play for the first few days, he seems to now put up with them. Tiger is housebroken and is trusted to have run of the house. Though I was pleasantly surprised to find he took to the kennel when I had to leave for work; especially when I first took in the new female Labs. Medically, Tiger is sound except for the bladder crystals found on X-Ray; leading to his bladder wall to thicken. Because of this, he will need to stay on Hill's Prescription Diet (Urinary Care) Feed. But he loves the food and an occasional Milk-Bone for a snack. He still is a little skittish of walking on a leash in the neighborhood, especially if there is a lot of loud traffic. But every day he's improving. At first, I could only take him as far as my next door neighbor before he would try to bolt and hide. Now, I'm able to walk him around the block (at his own pace, of course). Tiger at home has come to be a low energy pussy-cat. So, if your looking for a lovable dog who just likes to hang out at home and sun in the yard in a trusting environment; Tiger will capture your heart.
