If you meet Tiberius you will fall in love. He is a 5 year old, neutered AKC registered standard long haired black dachshund. He is gorgeous. He is also sweet and loving but since he was raised in an adult only home, he is NOT kid friendly and not kid safe. He is a few pounds overweight due to inactivity but in his new foster home he has been put in a strict regime of exercise and measured portions - no begging allowed and no in-between meal snacks while we work to get him back in shape. Tiberius is stressed at losing the only parents he ever knew and is exhibiting the stress through occasional marking. His parents surrendered him to Second Chance when they suffered a catastrophic medical issue that left them unable to care for Tiberius.

Dachshund experienced adopters are preferred because he expresses a lot of dachshund typical behaviors. He can get vocal when left alone, so he should not live in an apartment or condo type setting and would do best in a home where his owner is home often and he has another dog to buddy up with. He comes from a home where he was allowed on the furniture and slept in the bed with his parents. He does favor men but takes love from all. Tiberius is up to date on all shots and microchipped. His adoption fee is $250 which helps the rescue cover medical expenses and supplies. Please fill out an adoption application today to meet Tiberius!

All of our dogs are in private volunteer foster homes, and as such these individuals are most qualified to answer any questions regarding the dog.

We do not have a central shelter or kennel locations - you must make a private one-on-one meet and greet appointment with each individual dog at the foster family's convenience. To protect our foster families' privacy, we must have an APPROVED adoption application on file before we release their contact information.

All of our dogs are fixed (spayed/neutered) and up to date on shots. We have a 2 week foster-to-adopt period to make sure the dog is a fit for your family. Adoption fees vary from dog-to-dog.

Please note that an approved application DOES NOT guarantee that the dog will be placed with you. The final decision rests with our fosters as they know the dogs the best, and please be aware that there may be other applicants interested in the same dog. We continue accepting applications on a dog until the dog is with the new adoptive family in their home.
