THOR Akita Adult Male
THOR Akita Adult Male

Description

  My story

07/24/21 10:22 Thor was surrendered to the shelter most recently because he was too rough with the children in the home.

His most recent home also noted that he doesn't like other dogs. We are requiring that Thor go to a home without children under 12 years and without dogs. 11/17/20 11:30 Thor was adopted and then returned a couple of weeks later because Thor was left unattended in the house and had caused a fair amount of damage, including soiling the house and chewing drywall.

The owner was also finding that they did not have as much time to devote to him as they had originally anticipated. Thor had been doing fine when supervised in the house, and then appropriately contained outside when the owner was away from home, so it is recommended that Thor's new owners either keep him kenneled inside or safely contained outside when they are not home. 10/29/20 10:43 Thor was surrendered to the shelter because his owner could no longer properly care for him. Thor is said to be housebroken, rough when playing, and rides well in the car. Please research the Akita breed before deciding if Thor will be a good fit for you. Akitas are strong and can be very protective of their area and their people, so Thor's new owners should be an advocate for him and teach stranger humans (both big and small) about good dog manners, including being respectful of Thor's space. Thor does not do well with dogs, so we are requiring that he go to a home without other dogs.

Thor has never been around small animals or cats, and due to this breed's high prey drive, he may do best in a home without littler critters. When Thor gets excited and starts pulling on his leash, he pulls so hard that he can pass out.

To avoid this, Thor should be walked with a harness rather than using a collar, to avoid pressure on his windpipe. Thor needs a gentle but firm owner who can work with him on his obedience training and ensure he is well controlled at all times.

Teaching Thor to heel and be mindful of his owner will be two big goals!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt THOR, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
