You are bidding on a 1920s era Gibson A style mandolin pickguard that looks like it was subject to the kind of celluloid rot that sometimes occurs with these and then was subject to a repair attempt. On the back side of the guard you can see the evidence of the breakdown of the celluloid which weakened it and caused cracking. On the front you can see what appears to be glue residue, probably cyanoacrylate, applied in attempt to repair the area, but with no subsequent attempt to smooth off the over-application of the glue. As it sits there is some flex to the area of the repair but it is no longer falling apart. How much it would stand up to a further attempt to smooth out the surface to improve the look I can't predict. The guard has some cupping (as many/most of these do) and the upper mounting pin is bent. I offer it here exactly as it came to me in a large parts purchase from a closed vintage instrument shop. Offered with no reserve and a $1 opener, sold as-is so please ask all questions before bidding and make sure you want it before you buy. Shipping to US only, no international shipping offered. Shipping will be by priority mail w/insurance and will be $14. Thanks for your interest.
