My story
Teddy is a two and a half year old German Shepherd who was purchased from a breeder. The owner bought him on a whim and quickly lost commitment as Teddy grew from puppyhood to adolescence. Teddy was very smart and wanted attention but was given none. He needed training but was given none. Instead Teddy was then surrendered to a high-kill shelter and was rescued from the euthanasia list the week of July 4, 2018 by our rescue. Teddy came to us with myriad of issues. His behavior left much to be desired. His energy level was high. And most important, Teddy had a health issue no one knew about. In our care, Teddy was agitated, assertive and losing weight by the pounds. Through a grant from the Petfinder Foundation we were able to diagnosis and treat Teddy's ailment. Teddy was diagnosis-ed with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency known as EPI. This is a condition in which the pancreas fails to produce enough digestive enzymes which leads to weight loss, diarrhea and makes the dog feel overall lousy. This is a condition that is easily treated with a dose by weight of enzymes. Teddy has been on enzymes for a year and has gained weight, developed a personality in which he listens and has learned some commands. He is less irritable and has become more social with other animals. The story of Teddy is a tough one because it exemplifies poor breeding and poor ownership. The story of Teddy is why our shelters are filled daily with dogs people have thrown away. I will be honest with you Teddy was a first for our rescue and he was a major commitment but we refused to give up. Today Teddy runs and plays like a normal dog. You can see it in his eyes he is ready to please someone and fulfill someone's life. If you are interested in Teddy please know that his enzymes most likely will be a lifelong commitment as well as a financial commitment. Teddy is ready...finally!!! We are willing to provide transitional training upon adoption. His adoption fee is $200 Please email [email protected] or visit for an application to adopt.
