　　The Humane Society of West Alabama's cat adoption center at 1515 Veterans Memorial Pkwy is open Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Appointments are available for other times with advance notice. We're all-volunteer need at least a couple of days of advance notice to schedule appointments.

During November & December 2012, we've waived adoption fees for adult cats 1 year and older and reduced younger cats' fees to only $40! Make a cat's Christmas wish come true!

　　This beautiful ginger girl is Sandra, a female orange and white Tabby kitten. Sandra is approximately 8 weeks old this week (8/5/12). Sandra was "accidentally" rescued by a volunteer trying to feral an adult feral cat on his property. When the trap was tripped, they were surprised to find a teeny orange kitten sitting inside the food bowl, eating as much as she could! Sandra wasn't even fazed by the trap snapping shut - she was starving! She was actually pretty happy to be picked up by people, though a little curious of what we were. But she didn't hesitate to start bonding with other volunteers, and is a very friendly, affectionate and playful girl!

　　Sandra loves to play! She quickly discovered toys, and as long as they don't make too much noise, she's fallen in love with them! She absolutely loves to play with other cats, even adult cats! If she oversteps her boundaries and earns a hiss from an unamused adult, she leaps into the air and jumps back! When she finds someone who'll play with her, she's in love! She has a pretty high energy level, and has not been handled by small children, so we wouldn't recommend her as a playmate with children just yet. She would not do well around dogs. She's due for another vet checkup before coming into our adoption center this week (8/6/12). Stop by our cat adoption center or contact us to meet Sandra!

　　Negative for FIV and FeLK and current on first set of kitten vaccinations. The final set (consisting of Rabies and Feline Leukemia boosters) is due three weeks from the date of the previous set.

　　Since Sandra is too young to be spayed, an additional $100 refundable spay/neuter deposit is required at time of adoption to reinforce state law for all shelter animals to be fixed before or after adoption - out-of-state adopters are not an exception to the law. The spay/neuter deposit is refunded later upon delivery of proof (a certificate or vet records) that the kitten has been fixed. Regardless of the deposit, fixing the adopted pet by age 6 months is mandatory. Pediatric spaying/neutering is an option to discuss with your vet around 4 months of age.

　　Our flat adoption fee is $75, a fee to help defray a fraction of veterinary costs and general care expenses. Our adoptable animals have routine vet visits, and are as healthy as possible as soon as they are in our care. Vet records are provided to adopters. Read the descriptions thoroughly and note the specific personalities or special criteria we recommend (some are not good around kids, other cats, dogs, etc.). We cannot accept applications from minors/legal dependents. Read up on our adoption process .
