　　The Humane Society of West Alabama's cat adoption center at 1515 Veterans Memorial Pkwy is open Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Appointments are available for other times with advance notice. We're all-volunteer need at least a couple of days of advance notice to schedule appointments.

　　This gorgeous man is Simba, a beautiful silver tabby with dark grey stripes. Simba was turned in to our city's local shelter after the 4-27 tornado. He is estimated to be between 3 and 6 years of age. We pulled him to bring him into our no-kill rescue! We quickly learned that Simba is FIV+. It could be a light case of the disease, or it could be that he was vaccinated (cats who are vaccinated for FIV, even just once, will always test positive). He tests light positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, a disease that does not need extra medication or special treatments. It just makes him special. It can be transmitted to other cats, but not easily. FIV is not easily transmittable through saliva, but can be transmitted from other bodily fluids or inherited from their mother. FIV+ cats can live wonderful, long and healthy lives! They can live as only pets or with other pets such as dogs without ever putting them or the humans at risk. The disease is not transmittable to any other species.Despite his special disease, Simba is a sweet guy! He'd love to prance around your house like he owns it, snooping in everything and saying hello to whoever crosses his path! If he trots around the house and finds you, you're his buddy for the day!
