Look at that thoughtful face! Suzie is a sweet and smart -but slightly shy and reserved- 10lb and 7 year old spayed female Chihuahua Dachshund mix (our best guess). Treats and confidence-building through praise are the way to Suzie's joyful side, and it has been an absolute pleasure to see her coming out of her shell since leaving the shelter. Suzie is a quiet dog who only barks for a good reason, appears to be house trained and pee-pad trained, and is very respectful to other dogs. She is also respectful to her foster family's dog-tolerant cat, but might chase a skittish cat because it would be so much fun. She walks well on a leash, travels well in a crate in the car, and sleeps through the night in a dog bed (or at the foot of your bed if you will allow it). The wild rabbits outside in the yard are a constant source of fun stalking entertainment for Suzie. Like most Dachshunds and Dachshund mixes, she will prefer walks in a harness and her collar should just be for her tags.
Suzie loves lap time, but is less comfortable and easily overwhelmed by unexpected and enthusiastic petting, cuddles and fussing. She will relax and enjoys gentle strokes and scratches from those she trusts and during lap time. She will be best with adults and older kids (10+) who understand her need for a moment. If you are busy, she finds a place out of the way to snooze or patiently wait for you to be available. She is not a demanding dog and makes an easy roommate, and we think will be a lovely attentive companion to a very lucky family.
If you have a liking for large dogs with quiet reserved personalities, but need a dog 10lbs or less, Suzie might be a good match for you. Suzie is spayed, up-to-date on shots, and is microchipped, and she has had a dental in which she lost a few teeth. Her adoption fee is $250.
All Second Chance Dog Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccines and have microchips prior to adoption. Adoption fees vary depending on age of dog. All dogs live in private foster homes until they are adopted.
