Last year I had the unusual opportunity to buy a storage unit full of display cases from a local jeweler. He had bought them at auction planning to use them in a remodel of his shop but ultimately decided to have new ones built. The cases were originally from a jewelry shop in Denver and were built in the mid-1990s for about $80,000. They were only used for a few years because the jewelry shop closed and they have been in storage since.
I was initially hoping to find a shop that wanted all of them, but that proved too time consuming, so I have decided to split them up for individual sale. The cases are lighted and have locking cabinets. Each case is different so the prices vary, but they range from $800-$1,500. Because the cases were built as part of a configuration, many have open ends which need to be closed off and new plugs will have to be added to the existing wiring, which originally ran from case to case. Building these cases today or buying equivalent cases (if you could find them) would cost several times as much as these are priced for. The truth is, storing them is expensive and they should be in people’s homes where they can be enjoyed. Please PM me if you are interested or for more information.
