SPARKY SPECIAL NEEDS PUPPY's story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.
"Hi! It's me, Sparky!!! See my bum right front leg? It doesn't slow me down -- in fact if you play with me, I will use it to pat or push you a bit! I really LOVE toys, and if you'll let me sit in your lap I will give you the biggest, silliest grin... I love life, and I would love to spend time with YOU!
As a smart and cheeky puppy, I am engaging and persuasive -- I take pride in making *everyone* around me smile, laugh, and fall in love with my silly self. I'd like the chance to show off for you, and to show you what I can do!!
Love, Sparky!!"
Sparky is full of energy and the world's his oyster!! His right front leg (see photos) was broken at some time when he was very young and did not heal properly. Now that Sparky receives proper nutrition and exercise, he feels so. much. better. He even swats us with his little short leg to let us know he is happy and wants attention!
We have discovered that Sparky also has some issues with his rear legs that may require surgical intervention at some point. His wobbly knees seem to have stabilized with the muscle tone that has come from healthy activity, and while he has bone a issue that may at some future time require surgery, we suspect that he was housed for a long period in a too-small crate. :(
Whatever his past, Sparky LOVES toys, and enjoys running around in the grass with people or with another dog friend... Since he is enthusiastic but orthopedically compromised, it will be important to match him with a fun medium-sized dog, or to simply allow him to be an only dog. He LOVES to be noticed and LOVES to climb into our laps for toy-time and love!
Sparky would so enjoy being in a foster home! So if you can only temporarily commit to a pup - or if you are concerned about the special needs aspect - please consider opening your home short-term to this precious young dog!! He has made huge progress in the short time he's been with us and he is so ready for more companionship!
If you believe you're a possible match for Sparky, or would simply like to learn more about him, PLEASE complete an adoption application!
We encourage you to register on our site and "Favorite" the dog(s) that interest you, so that you will be notified when bio or photos are updated.
**IMPORTANT**
"Companion animal" means, needs at least one other friendly, playful dog that lives in the same household.
"Fenced yard" means, a backyard that is adjacent to and connected with your residence. (It does not mean a nearby fenced area/dog park.)
Gates must have padlocks and thresholds (cement or buried pavers to prevent digging.)
Yard and patio must be free of debris and have room for dogs to run and play on a lawn and/or a very shaded area.
We do not place dogs in situations where there are "drained" or empty swimming pools, which are a fall hazard and contribute to the propogation of mosquitos.
We DO NOT adopt to students as we have found that they often do not know or anticipate where life is taking them next.
Dogs remain posted while we screen potential adopters. As long as dog is designated "Available" we continue to accept applications.
We are staffed by all volunteers and use an application protocol to handle all inquiries about adoptable dogs. This system enables an efficiency that allows us to save and care for more dogs. Discussion about a dog - including scheduling of a home check or other dialogue - cannot occur until we have received your completed adoption application. NO EXCEPTIONS. Thank you!
