Sony CDP-101 - Rare VTG 1st CD Player. Tested & Works
Sony CDP-101 - Rare VTG 1st CD Player. Tested & Works
Dec 20, 2024
Description

There is a gash at the top front but the dark tone of the player helps minimize a little. FF, Rew, Skip, Play, and Pause all work.  The Sony CDP-101 is the world's first commercially released compact disc player.[1] The system was launched in Japan on October 1, 1982 at a list price of 168,000 yen (approx US$730).[2]The Japan-only launch was partially because Philips, Sony's partner in the development of the CD format, was unable to meet the original agreed launch date. Rather than agree to a full postponement, Sony agreed to delay the launch of the format outside Japan by six months.[3] The Philips CD100 launched in November 1982,[4] although early Philips players contained some Sony components.[5]In line with the agreement, the system was launched worldwide in March 1983.[6]
