Smudge's story
**Smudge is currently being fostered in Houston
meaning meeting him prior to his adoption will not be possible. His adoption donation is $450USD
this includes his flight home, a new kennel, and he has been vetted appropriate to his age. Because he is too young to be neutered, adopters will sign a contract agreeing to have him neutered once the vet determines he is old/big enough. Because flights are so expensive, the adoption fee is non-negotiable. **
Little Smudge came to us when his momma surprised us with 12 PUPPIES just weeks after being rescued from the streets. The puppies have lived great lives in a foster home with lots of attention and love. Now its time to find our 12-pack their forever lives!
Smudge is a Lab/Pointer mix, meaning he will likely be a good mid-sized dog in the 60-pound range when fully grown. He will be an ACTIVE dog while he continues to grow and an active and smart adult. He would be best suited for a family that can commit to consistently getting him proper exercise and socialization. He will be great running, hiking, adventure buddies for the right family.
Smudge currently lives with other dogs and loves having playmates. He would be great as an addition to a family with other dogs or as a single guy as long as his family commits to ongoing socialization. He has not been tested with cats, but given his age and general disposition, we think he would be fine with a kitty companion. He currently lives with two kids and is very used to being loved on and played with by little humans. He would be a good companion for a family with children that have been taught to be respectful of animals.
He is still a small little guy, so he will need a lot of positive guidance as he continues to grow and develop into an amazing family companion. He is a young puppy, so his family will need to understand and be committed to all of the challenges that come with a young pup, including potty training, chewing, kennel training, and separation anxiety that could be caused by leaving his pack.
The best suited family will be one that understands that dogs can take time to acclimate to their new homes - which will likely include having accidents, crying in their kennel, and chewing on things they are not supposed to. Smudge will be best suited for a family that can provide him with patience and positive reinforcement as he grows.
We expect our dogs to be adopted by families who plan to keep them as indoor pets and part of the family. We do not adopt to families who plan to keep dogs outside for an extended period of time, for example the entire workday.
Smudge is one of the happiest, fattest little loves you could meet. He is very healthy and has been well cared for by his foster home. By the time he is ready to fly home after his second round of shots (after 3/18) he will have had two rounds of vaccinations, been dewormed, and microchipped. His adoptive family will sign a contract agreeing to have him neutered once their primary vet deems her old/big enough
not following through with the neuter will be considered a breach of the adoption contract.
