This is a good 1955 Singer Featherweight 221 Sewing Machine. These are terrific for quilters. This one is extremely pretty and includes the case, a key for the lock, 2 bobbins, an original manual, and a free copy of the Singer 221 Adjuster's Manual (it is now in the general public Domain).
I chose to see if there was regional interest from Americanlisted prior to putting it on ebay.com. I have correctly oiled and lubed the machine and it runs fine. I am no sewage system, but my wife specifies that it does a gorgeous stitch. The case is sturdy and in great condition and the secret and locks work fine.
I have had it described to me by sewage systems that there are 2 type of Featherweight machines: Show machines and Sew devices. Over the summer, I started collecting a few of these, in all sorts of conditions, to spruce up, tune up and sell to folks who wanted a machine to actually sew with. Some are rather like this one, and some are a bit unsightly. This device has really minimal wearing of the gold decals and, of course, light pin-scratching as they all do if they haven't been re-painted. I'm not intending on selling any of them at huge costs, and most likely making about $3 an hour for dealing with them. Purchase this one locally and conserve the $40-$50 shipping costs.
