My story
HI, hi, hi!!! My name is Shaggy! I'm the sweetest, cuddliest, hyper-est, and most loving-est dog you'll ever meet! I am only 2 years old, so I am absolutely FULL of energy, and don't let my diagnosis/spinal injury hold me back! I came to Wags and Whiskers when my back legs stopped working in my old home; my previous owners took me to the vet and were ready to euthanize me; they thought I was suffering. The veterinarian at Chico Pet Vet truly saved my life, she let my former owners know that she believed she could treat me, and help me to regain most, if not all, of my control in my rear end; unfortunately, my former family was not up to the task of having a "broken" dog that needed medical treatment, it was too much for them, and they still insisted on euthanasia; luckily for me, Dr. Lewis is a guardian angel dressed in scrubs, and advocated for my surrender, where I would be able to receive treatment from Chico Pet Vet, through Wags and Whiskers. I spent the first couple weeks at CPV, getting treatments regularly, until I regained enough control that I was allowed to head off to a foster home; here in my foster home, I am learning all sorts of new things, including re-learning how to make it up stairs. I still get around just great, though my foster mom says she can't help but giggle when she watches me, I guess that's because my back end has a mind of it's own at times. I get along with all the other animals at my foster home, which includes: other dogs both big and small, male and female, most of the kitties (one of them is kinda mean to me though, so I try my best to avoid her), the chickens & ducks outside, and I don't bother or care about any of the caged pets, like rodents or birds in the house. If you are looking for a new family member, I promise I can check all of your boxes! Apply to meet me today!

Thank you so much for looking into wags and whiskers for your next family member.
All of our pets are up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm tested if over 6 months old and will be spayed or neutered before being allowed to go home.
Unfortunately, we don't always know the background of each dog. Some were dumped, abandoned in an empty house, left tied to a tree, picked up by animal control as strays, or simply unwanted by their owners. Please take into consideration that owning a pet is a 10+ year commitment and discuss with all members of your family before submitting an application to adopt.
If you have already filled out an online adoption application with our organization in the last 6 months you do not need to fill out another application. Please call or email us to schedule an appointment.
If you are interested in meeting this pet please apply to adopt at

if the pet is still available for adoption and you are approved to adopt we will contact you to set up a meet and greet appointment.
