My story
Please go to our website at to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application. Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website. We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run. We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have. Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt. This is Astro. The most trainable three year old lab you have ever met. Not quite two months...off all (un-necessary) medications, eating food, from shaking/growling/shivering to smiling and jumping. We are still working on re-direction at times, but overall, it's a total transformation. Astro will be looking for a new foster family in the coming weeks. He is amazing with children, but a bit strong on leash (adults only), enjoys fetch, long walks and would thrive in a fenced in yard. He is new-ish to experiencing life since coming off medication, so things can be overwelming to him in the moment (like deer running, or the sound of a drone) and is food focused for re-direction/comfort during these new moments in life. No aggression whatsoever in this home (and he takes a lot from a three year old). He is crate trained, so we did that for a few days, and now he sleeps on an ottoman through the night. He would prefer a home that is not empty as he does like companionship. All in all he's a new dog from the one that was rescued.
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Shady Shores / Astro, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
