My story
Meet Santi! This little guy has a two part story.
The first part you will read will be when he was originally in our rescue 3 years ago.
He was adopted out by a family who we thought would be committed to him for life only to have him returned 3 years later.
Santi's original name was Brutus and at the time we described him as a handsome and fluffy little dream boy!
At that time he was 5 years old and now he is obviously 8. He is a mixture of Poodle and Havanese and is hypoallergenic and non-shedding.This part is his original story. In his short little life he has already been through alot.
We don't know much about the first part of his life except he wound up at the shelter as a stray and then was adopted by his current family.
His current family kept him for two years and now that they are moving are giving him up!
Which is just crazy considering how loving and well behaved he is!
They have 3 small kids and they hang all over him without a problem!
So far he has probably had 4 homes (breeder, family, shelter, current family) and now is in foster care so we want to make sure his next stop is his last stop!He is great with other dogs and kids and walks great on a leash.
He does like toys and is also cat friendly.
He would be fine as an only dog or with kids as he is very adaptable.Which brings us to today.
Santi was in a home with a husband and wife and their son who died a year ago from a degenerative disease.
We don't know how much this obvious tragedy affected everyone including Santi but instead of working through any issues with their adopted dog they decided to give him back to us.
As we stand by all our dogs we know that there is the home out there for him that won't give him up no matter what happens.
It is very disturbing to us that he has bounced from home to home with people thinking nothing of just getting rid of him.
When he was here in foster care he played with the foster Mom's Pit mix and loved her two kids.
He loves to play fetch and loves his walks.
He is also very fond of men.
We would love to see him in a home with someone who will be his final forever human.
He is okay to be an only dog.His adoption fee includes the following:1. Current vet check with full blood panel and thyroid check2. Current dental cleaning3. Current vaccinations including rabies4. Microchip5. Neuter6. Collar and leash7. Starter food and bedHis adoption fee is $250.As we prescreen via email ONLY (we do NOT make or receive phone calls in the pre-screening phase) please tell us a bit about you such as: 1. Your lifestyle, activity level and work schedule. 2. Area you live in and if it is a house or apartment. (Please indicate city)3. How many adults, children and pets in the household. 4. Where your pet stays when you are out or at work. 5. Where your pet will sleep. 6. Large breed experience7. Have you ever had to give up a pet8. If you do not currently have a pet how you will keep Santi socialized with other dogsSome notes to consider before applying for Santi:1..As Santi has been bounced around from home to home please make sure that everyone is on board with making a lifetime commitment to this boy.
In his current situation it was one family member that did not want to keep him.2. Please make sure you are ready to adopt before coming to see our adoptable dogs. We are a foster based rescue and do not have the space to hold dogs for a couple of weeks while you vacation or make your way to California to come and adopt. We will adopt out of state but ONLY if the potential adopter comes here to adopt in person and that is after a screening by Skype. WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS EVER. 3. We are often inundated with emails about our adoptable dogs and try as we might to make everyone happy it is nearly impossible with only one dog and sometimes up to 50 potential families. The more information you provide in your email to us the quicker we will get back to you. If you have written to us before about a particular dog and did not receive a response please do try again. We try to answer every email but it is not always possible. Every dog has different home requirements that we search for so sometimes you are the right fit for the dog we are trying to place. 4. PLEASE do NOT send more than one email.
It slows down the process.5. Every dog is in a private foster home.
We do not allow random visits to come and see the dogs.
We have a
process starting with answering the questions listed above.
From there we move on to the phone screen and from there an in person meeting.
Thank you for choosing to adopt!
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Santi, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
