My story
Sammy and his brother Bear in D19 came to the shelter as strays. They have been turned in multiple times and need a home that is devoted to keeping them home. Sammy and Bear have now been neutered, which may reduce their urge to wander, but their owners will still need to make sure they are properly contained. Sammy and Bear are extremely friendly boys and appear to generally get along well with other dogs, although we encourage mutual visits with any other dogs in the home to help ensure they are a good fit, as they were both recently intact males. Sammy and Bear are known to assault porcupines and WILL NOT leave a porcupine alone if they find it, which will result in them getting quilled and injured. Sammy and Bear's new owners will need to be vigilant in keeping them on leash when in areas porcupines might frequent. Sammy and Bear also appear to have high prey drive and are known to go after livestock and have been seen to stalk cats- as a result, they must go to a home without either. Sammy and Bear are sweet young dogs who would do best in an active home that can give them plenty of interaction and adventure time.
