　　The Humane Society of West Alabama's cat adoption center at 1515 Veterans Memorial Pkwy is open Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Appointments are available for other times with advance notice. We're all-volunteer need at least a couple of days of advance notice to schedule appointments.

　　The Humane Society of West Alabama's Home for the Holidays campaign aims to have as many homeless pets home by the end of December as possible! During November & December 2012, we've waived adoption fees for adult cats 1 year and older and reduced younger cats' fees to only $40! Make a cat's Christmas wish come true!

　　This lucky guy is Checkers, a very handsome short-haired Russian Blue kitten with a patch of white on his chest and patches on his paws. He also has gorgeous orange eyes, the perfect eye color of Russian Blue cats. He's approximately 7-8 months old (11/12). Checkers and two siblings were rescued out of a hoarding situation with an extreme lack of care. Checkers was a little scared at first, but he's calmed down and adjusted to a much better life at our cat adoption center. He's actually a big sweetie!! He's a a pretty low-energy guy - a bit on the lazy side. He's calm and gentle, and loves to sit near people almost all the time (just to make sure he isn't missing anything). He'd do well as an only cat or with other cats, but we aren't sure how he'd handle being around dogs. Despite a rocky start to life, this guy wants to be loved! We'll give him as much love as he can handle at the adoption center, but he's really hoping for a permanent home soon!! Please stop in or contact us to meet Checkers!

　　Our flat adoption fee is $75, a fee to help defray a fraction of veterinary costs and general care expenses. Our adoptable animals have routine vet visits, and are as healthy as possible as soon as they are in our care. Vet records are provided to adopters. Read the descriptions thoroughly and note the specific personalities or special criteria we recommend (some are not good around kids, other cats, dogs, etc.). We cannot accept applications from minors or legal dependents. Read up on our adoption process .
