Rolex Red Submariner Mark IV Dial Ref. 1680 Circa 1969.
Excellent condition, no box or papers.
This is a wonderful example of a rare Red Submariner that is in excellent condition. Created in 1969, this vintage Rolex has a Mark IV dial with a brilliant red logo over the 6. Although the dial looks black in my pictures, it does have hint of brown color and is just beginning a transition into a tropical dial. The markers and numbers have a nice cream colored patina which also does not show well in my pictures. There some very small chips on the edge by the 9. These were likely made by the watchmaker when he/she took the watch apart to service the movement. You can see them in the macro picture. But they really are not noticeable. I did not notice them until they were pointed out prior to my purchase. With the exception of these very small marks, this is a wonderful dial!
The watch came to me with a replacement hour hand. I have since replaced that hand with an authentic period correct hand. Even the creamy patina is a close match. I have also improved the seal on the crystal and this submariner also meets a waterproof pressure test. While my Rolex certified watchmaker was improving the condition of this watch, he also tightened the tension of the bezel, oiled the movement and regulated the timing. Truly a nice specimen that you can wear and enjoy for another 50 years or more!
