Description

  Rhett (FCID# 03/01/2018 - 64)'s story

  Rhett

  FCID#: 03/01/2018 - 64

Rhett is an unbelievably sweet tabby gentleman. Within hours of being in foster care, Rhett let it be known that he loves to be pet and within days, he was hopping onto his foster mom's and dad's laps for the warmth and love. Rhett was, unfortunately, surrendered by his initial adopters due to his recurring ear polyps and the cost associated to have his ear canal removed to permanently treat the frequent recurrence. Without the surgery, he would have required sedation 3-4 times/year to remove polyps. In early November 2018, Rhett had his left ear canal removed, which also required the removal of the ear itself. Despite having developed a head tilt and delayed use of his left eye, it still does not stop Rhett from being able to live his life the best way possible. He can get around perfectly fine. He loves meal and treat time, but if you are on the couch reading a book or scrolling through your social media feeds, he will likely take that as an invite to hop up and join you. He is an older guy, between 6 and 8 y.o. (we think) so he is not rambunctious. He enjoys finding a nice place by a window to check into his Neighborhood Watch job (which you may catch him sleeping on).

While Rhett is in a foster home with many other younger cats (kittens up to 4 years old), he may do best in a home that has older cats that are not jumping off the walls. I would probably recommend a quiet home for this guy. Sometimes he can be playful with toys and other times he can be like the fun police when other cats are getting too excited.

He is FIV+, although, he is in foster care with non-FIV+ cats and he has not experienced any issues with fighting. He is not normally the cat to snuggle or groom with other cats, but you may catch him in close proximity to other cats at nap time.

Rhett's foster offer this: I would not characterize him as special needs. However, he is FIV+ and knowing that the ear polyps may pop up again I the future in his other ear, one may consider him as such. He just needs to probably be examined more regularly than other cats. Like every 6 months vs every year or whenever someone feels like it.

If you have any other questions about Rhett, please feel free to reach out. Please submit a no-obligation adoption application to meet Rhett: /application.php. Thank you! (Foster: Tiffany G.)
