My story
Well, hello there!
My name is Raemond AKA Super Dog, Baby Rae, Rae-Rae, Sweet Baby Raaaaae! Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
I was born 10/7/2022. I am some kind of chihuahua mix but Foster Mom said a DNA test would be fun if my new family wanted to know for sure. I weigh 7 pounds (at 5 months) and am expected to be around 10-13 pounds when full-grown but nobody knows for sure!
My Foster Mom calls me “Super Dog” because I didn’t have the normal start to a puppy’s life. Let me tell you why.
When I was born, my owner noticed that something wasn’t quite right about me immediately. I was half the size of my littermates and I wasn’t eating too well with milk coming out my nose. My owner started reaching out to rescue organizations to help me as she didn’t know what else to do. I was sooooo lucky that she found NBS Animal Rescue that day because they immediately took me in.
It was touch and go for a few weeks as NBS learned that I was born with a cleft palate and all the assistance I needed to survive. But I am a fighter and so is NBS! I did survive! And then I had a surgical repair of my cleft palate with Dr. Stanley at Animal Surgical Center last month. Now here I am, healing really well! And just about ready to be adopted!
Let me tell you a bit about me now that I am 5 months old. My foster Mom thinks I don’t quite realize I am a dog. And why should I?! She baby-talks to me all the time and I love it! I go pretty much everywhere I can with my foster family. I go to work 3 days a week and to stores. I go to school to pick-up my human brother every day. I go for car rides. I don’t go for walks much because I hate the cold…and I really don’t appreciate sweaters, coats or boots. I hear I am going to love the summer, whatever that is!
My Foster Mom says that I am the best traveler, though. All she has to say is “Do you want to go?” and I start dancing around the house ready to embark on our next journey. I fall asleep after a couple minutes in the car and sleep until the car goes into park! I LOOOVE meeting new people and going new places. And I think kids are the absolute bestest. Does your family have any kids for me to play with?! That would make me so happy. I get so excited that I will even pee, so beware!
Hopefully I will grow out of that as I get bigger.
I am still working on leash training as I am a puppy and like to chew and tug on it. But I will get there with more practice. For this reason, I do need my family to have a fenced-in yard. I do love to run in the backyard on nice days. My family always laughs at me as I catch the zoomies circling the backyard!
I also really love my life at home. I have unlocked expert level snuggling on someone’s lap, their stomach, or their shoulders. Wherever someone will let me snuggle, I am THERE! I have two doggy siblings that I love even though they are older and don’t play with me much.
I have never met cats or any other kinds of animals so I am not sure how I would do with those yet. I love my human Foster Brother so much and always want to play fetch with him. I am occasionally crated for short periods of time and I am excellent in my crate.
Because of my age, I do chew on anything I can get my mouth on but I am only allowed soft stuff until the end of April like soft toys or stuffies until the sutures in my mouth are fully dissolved from my surgery. I also try to chew on blankets, dog beds and couch cushions that my Foster Mom gently reminds me not to do. Tee-hee! It’s important that my new home is really well “puppy proof” because of my age as well as having the mouth surgery. I don’t want anything to damage the hard work of Dr. Stanley.
I still eat softened dry food but at the end of March I can go back to hard kibble.
Just need to give my mouth time to finish healing.
I am still working on potty-training but my family says I am really making progress, even asking occasionally.
Surgery set me back a bit but I am getting there. I can snore a bit more than most dogs because of my cleft palate repair but Dr. Stanley says that can be normal.
I do drink out of a glass stand water bottle still as that is what I had to use my whole life. Only dogs drink out of bowls! I am not a dog, I am Super Dog Raemond! Dogs with cleft palates can have additional issues in the future, so I need a family fully committed to all medical needs in the future. I may be a completely normal dog. I may get nasal infections. I could even need another surgery if the cleft palate repair fails for some reason. I need a family happy to help me with whatever I need medically if it arises.
My ideal home:
• Fenced in yard so I can ruuuun but stay safe
• Family committed to finishing potty training me
• Family at home or the ability for me to go to work with a family member
• Family with financial means to care for additional medical needs if necessary
• Prefer a family with a child (age 7+)
• Prefer a family with small breed experience and/or special needs experience
• A family committed to loving me for my whole life!
**Please note that NBS has been posting updates about me and my progress on Facebook for 5 months now. They are expecting to have many, many applications on me. But there is only one me! And I want people to know that the super kind people at NBS are looking for that perfectly wonderful home for me. I know some LOVELY potential adopters will still be disappointed when not chosen but please know I love you all and my Foster Mom will have to make an almost impossible decision in my 100% best interest. Please be patient with NBS as they process applications!**
If you think I might be the perfect addition to your family please follow these steps:
1.) Visit to fill out my adoption application. As an approved adopter, my rescue friends can set up a home visit so I can meet you. Our rescue is 100% run by volunteers, to help your application be processed as quickly as possible, please make sure to….
2.) Call your veterinarian and give them permission to release information about your current and past pet’s veterinary history.
3.) Call your references too! Let them know to expect a phone call from an unknown phone number, and a rescue team member will need to talk to them on the phone as a reference.
My adoption fee is $300.00 and includes a DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, de-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine (age appropriate), heartworm test (age appropriate), heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food. While I hope that you have fallen in love with me and are ready to apply, I understand if I might not be the perfect pup for your family just yet. However, would you please help by sharing my picture on Facebook, twitter or by email? I'm a great pup and need a loving family to give all of my love and puppy kisses to! Thank-you for your help!
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Raemond AKA Super Dog, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
