Quarterhorse - Sugar Baby - Medium - Adult - Female - Horse
She's beautiful inside and out, but it wasn't always this way. This lovely Palomino mare has come a long way since she arrived at Best Friends. Before she came to the sanctuary, Sugar Baby was sent to a trainer to be started. Well, the trainer sent her back home, saying she was vicious and never going to be ridden. From that time on, Sugar Baby lived the quiet life as a pasture pal until financial difficulties forced her family to give her up. Sugar Baby was a good horse, but if she got scared, her first reaction was to defend herself, and her trainer had just given up on her. As we got to know her at Best Friends, it became clear that she wasn't an aggressive horse at all. On the contrary, she was a very sensitive girl. She simply didn't have the skills to cope with new situations. Now that she's received Parelli Natural Horsemanship training, she's a much more emotionally sound horse but may still be unpredictable at times. Sugar Baby would do well with a patient, Parelli-savvy owner who has earned an official Level-3 standing. Potential adopters who are proficient in other natural-horsemanship disciplines are also encouraged to apply for adoption by demonstrating their horse-handling skills. She is a good trail horse and really enjoys getting out for a nice ride. Due to some issues with her shoulder and front feet, leisurely pleasure rides would be best, rather than any type of hard or performance riding. Natural Balance shoeing has helped her stay sound and is important for her continued soundness. She's come a long way, and she really does feel like a new horse. But Sugar Baby's still hoping to find a nice, very horse-experienced home with folks who are aware that she's had fear issues in the past. She can't wait to meet you, and to head out on the trail, for a ride in the fresh, early morning dew.
