Description

  PRINCESS's story

Princess is a shy cat whom prefers to have a little space at first, but scratch her head, tickle her chin and ruffle her ears, and she''ll quickly be all yours! She came to the shelter with her friend Sugar, who, judging from his behavior here at the shelter, may have acted as her ''protector'' in her previous home. The cats were surrendered because they were less than cuddly towards their owner- unfortunately, the cats were left in the after hours dropoff cages so we were unable to speak with the owner regarding the circumstances surrounding their behavior. The cats'' owner indicated that they would scratch him, however, we have been unable to elicit a similar response here at the shelter- Princess has allowed examinations and daily handling, brushing, and petting with no objections, even enjoying the pets and brushing to the extent that she will be foolish and roll around on the table! She can also be quite talkative in the evening when she comes out for dinner. Princess appears to be afraid of dogs, so should go to a home without canines. She has lived with another kitty before and may enjoy feline company, particularly if the other cat in the household is sociable and confident, but also willing to give Princess her space. It may be that, in her previous home, Princess was reacting to the environment or other pets, and that''s why she was behaving aggressively towards her previous owner- she may have also been feeding off of her housemate Sugar''s behavior. As such, we recommend that Princess go to an experienced cat home that understands cat behaviors, with a person who is adept at reading feline body language and is content to give Princess her space when she needs it. Princess may prefer women over men, and we are requiring that she go to a home with no young children under the age of 12. Princess is hoping to find the perfect home that understands her and will give her the time and space to open up to her new people.

UPDATE: Princess was returned to the shelter after less than 1 day in her adoptive home because she was not getting along with the other cat in the household. Princess will either need to go to a home where she can be the only pet, or to a home that understands how, and is dedicated to, SLOWLY introducing new cat roomates.
