　　Machi, (AKA Spencer), is a 1 year old Poodle mix and weighs about 9 lbs. His foster mom writes: "He is an absolutely adorable dog. Two weeks ago, when I first met him at the Carlsbad Shelter, he was very frightened and ill with kennel cough. He spent the first day at my house hiding under my bed. I created a small doggie bed for him under my bed and let him progress at his own pace. He responded well to his medication and eventually emerged ready to greet the world. He now interacts and gets along very well with my two dogs. He is curious about his environment and quite playful. He enjoys toys and rides well in the back seat of the car. He is doing very well with house training. I take him outside routinely to go to ?the bathroom? and he no longer has accidents in the house. If he is kept on a schedule or is given access to the outdoors he should continue to be successful. He responds to the command ?come? and he is neither a barker nor a runner. Although he still has puppy behaviors, like carrying your shoes around (no chewing), he is a well behaved, easy-going dog. He is still shy and untrusting around people. However, he is allowing me to hold him and he is very appreciative and responsive to affection. He enjoys the outdoors, but he is still afraid of the leash so I take him out in enclosed areas. It is important to approach him very gently when you first meet him and be patient with him. He would do very well in a home with other small pets and would be fine around kind children. Machi is a very special and courageous little dog who is becoming happier and more confident every day. All Machi needs is some time and kindness and he will make someone a very loving companion." 　　All of our dogs are in private volunteer foster homes, and as such these individuals are most qualified to answer any questions regarding the dog. We do not have a central shelter or kennel locations - you must make a private one-on-one meet and greet appointment with each individual dog at the foster family's convenience. To protect our foster families' privacy, we must have an APPROVED adoption application on file before we release their contact information.

　　All of our dogs are fixed (spayed/neutered) and up to date on shots. We have a 2 week foster-to-adopt period to make sure the dog is a fit for your family. Adoption fees vary from dog-to-dog. Please note that an approved application DOES NOT guarantee that the dog will be placed with you. The final decision rests with our fosters as they know the dogs the best, and please be aware that there may be other applicants interested in the same dog. We continue accepting applications on a dog until the dog is with the new adoptive family in their home.
