A little about her from her foster mom, Alisa: Maggie was an abused and beaten stray found emaciated and balding living behind a dumpster with her three puppies in Corpus Christi, Tx where I was previously stationed. Corpus is an awful place for pets; packs of wild stray dogs roam the streets, dog fighting is prevalent, no one spays or neuters, the shelter is overcrowded and kills many more animals that adopted, and there are only two rescue groups with limited funds as the public does not embrace rescue work as the community in San Diego does. It was so hard living there. There wasn't a day I didn't witness animal abuse and there was nothing to be done about it; government services didn't do anything. Maggie was fortunate to be picked up by a rescue, For the Love of Strays. I've fostered two dogs for them, including Maggie. She was vetted, spayed, two of her puppies adopted, one died... She was never adopted though for almost a year. She was so afraid of people she would cower and hide. She became healthy, but her emotional state prevented her from adoption. I took Maggie for about three months and worked with her extensively to build trust towards new people, places and other animals. About three months of hard work paid off and I found an adopter in San Diego (where I'm from and now live) who fell in love with Maggie's adoption video. A military family that was moving across country to SD was willing to transport her for me, and off she went to California. Her original adopter had her for two months, and Maggie continued to flourish in her own right. She is a Cali girl! She loves the beach, loves walks, loves children, loves affection, car rides, everything. Unfortunately, the adopter had a very old shepherd that refused to accept Maggie and would bully her. It wasn't fair for either dog, or the adopter, and broken hearted, the adopter gave Maggie back to us. She has since lived in a home with two other dogs, two cats and two birds. She meets new people constantly and is a completely different dog. I cannot say anything bad about her, she is the best behaved foster dog, especially considering what she's been through. She is easy going, well mannered, quiet, calm, playful, goofy. Her only fault is occasionally she does not prefer my female dog (mostly I believe because my female dog is a "female dog" through and through), she has dug out of our yard (because she adores the kids next door, though she never goes anywhere) and she's got an underbite (I personally think its adorable). Maggie would do best in many different types of homes. She'd do great as an only dog, or a companion to a dog she is compatible with. She's aloof with cats and other small animals. She's a wonderful nanny dog. She'd do fine in an active or relaxed household. She loves walks but isn't great running companion. She is 35lbs, spayed, microchipped and vetted.
