My story
Some pups are happy no matter what life throws their way. Pogo, FKA Briggit, is one of those dogs. Four weeks ago Pogo fractured her tibia while playing with her foster dog sister. No one's fault - just one of those things. When she jumped off the couch she fractured her tibia. Our fabulous partner vet did x-rays and learned that there was a silver lining in that Pogo didn't break her fibula and her tibia would heal just fine on its own with splints and wraps. Thankfully surgery was not required! Next week she gets to lose the splint and just have a bandage for another week or so.
You can tell from her pictures that Pogo/Briggit is sweet and affectionate! Already she has stolen her foster parent's hearts with her silly antics and playful but gentle nature. She is smart too! Pogo has not had one accident in the house and she sleeps through the night in her comfy wire crate. Before her tibia fracture, Pogo went to work with her mom at the rec center and also joined her foster parents on trips to dog friend restaurants and breweries! She did great and is a staff favorite at the local pub! Leash walks are also going well and her house manners are pretty darn good for a young pup! Occasionally Pogo can be shy in new situations but she just needs a few minutes to warm up before her true self emerges. She was born on the Navajo reservation and saved by a local rescue just as the owner was walking into the shelter to relinquish her and her sisters. The shelter said the entire litter would be euthanized upon intake because they didn't have any space. We are so glad Pogo/Briggit was saved! Pogo has a soft, feathery coat and while we are not sure of her breed she could be shepherd/australian shepherd and maybe some retriever. It appears she is going to be small/medium (best guess is 40 ish pounds).
On August 4th, Briggit was playing with her foster sister and broke her tibia. We took her to Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital emergency room where the vet gave us some good news. The break would not require surgery! Thankfully the fibia bone was not broken so the vet recommended a splint to keep the leg stable and because Briggit is so young it would help on it's own!
While she is definitely a true-blue mixed breed pup, she appears to have a good amount of Shepherd and perhaps Retriever in her. Her estimated age is around 5.5 to 6 months and she weighs 20-22 lbs so she will likely be a small to medium sized adult.
