Description

Enjoy this immaculately detailed watercolor painting of Amsterdam dated 1871 by important French artist Pierre Justin Ouvrié. Pierre Justin Ouvrié or Ouvrié (19 January 1806 - 22 October 1879) was a French painter and lithographer. He was known as Justin Ouvrié from 1852 onwards.Born in Sotteville-lès-Rouen, Justin Ouvrié was a student of baron Taylor and Abel de Pujol at the École des beaux-arts de Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1831 onwards with views of towns and monuments, sometimes as historical or picturesque scenes. He was very successful under the July Monarchy, winning a 2nd class medal at the 1831 Salon, a 1st class medal at the 1843 Salon and a 3rd class medal at the 1855 Exposition Universelle as well as being made a chevalier of the Légion d'honneur in 1854.[1] He was a professor at the Maison d'éducation de la Légion d'honneur in Saint-Denis.He later became blind,[2] after which the paintings in his studio were sold off at the hôtel Drouot on 21 December 1874. Moving to Maisons-Laffitte, he died at Sotteville-lès-Rouen. His pupils included Jean-Joseph Bellel and Paul Chardin.Ouvrie is a well known artist whose works have appeared in notable museums in France, the UK, and the United States. His photograph is in archive at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and his works are in British Royal museums and a beautiful castle in France called Château de Chenonceau. I purchased this painting at the PAN art show in the Netherlands. This is an annual art show in Amsterdam that brings the most famous art from around the world for display and sale. Items for sale easily surpass the one hundred thousand Euro mark. Authenticated Rembrandt etchings and Picasso art appears at this show. This is one of the most renowned annual art shows in Europe. Expert Authenticators verify every single item before it is sold. You can see the certificate the very old gentleman seller gave me when I purchased this painting. You can also contact the PAN council by email to verify the authenticity and originality of this art. This is not an after or reproduction, this is the original painting from 1871. Additional provenance can be inferred from the back of the painting. The watercolor painting is a beautiful landscape of Amsterdam architecture; canals and churches and towers. You can also see a bridge and traditional Dutch boats of the era with citizens and passengers. I love this painting and I don’t really want to sell it. The price is the offer I can’t refuse price. Any museums interested in this painting please message me with your request and offer. Looks much better in person compared to photographs. Framed Glass over watercolor surface. Christie’s Auction screenshot of a different painting from 1996.
