PETRA's story

　　Petra is a beautiful soul who is far more interested in snuggling and being pet than she is in toys or chasing a ball. She is super friendly with humans and is not dog-reactive. **VIDEO COMING SOON - Please register and "favorite" Petra's page to be notified of updates!**

　　Petra will be placed in a home with perhaps ONE other polite adult dog, or a home where she is the only dog and can be a constant companion. She needs plenty of exercise and she richly deserves a lifetime of love, especially after losing the only family she knew when they moved away without her. She recently spent a short time with a family that has a young puppy, and the puppy's continuous antics and peskiness was more than Petra could deal with on a daily basis.

　　Petra requires a large backyard as she loves to roam. She also enjoys walking with her humans. Petra's adopters must commit to a series of workshops with our excellent trainer to ensure that she is leash-trained and 100% delightful and manageable on walks. Petra is a big girl and gentle -- knows how to sit and how to be a good vehicle passenger -- but does need to understand that is not necessary to pull on the lead. She is EXQUISITE!!

　　Due to Petra's size and energy, we would prefer to hear from adult-only adopters or families whose children are middle school-aged or older.

　　We encourage you to register on our site and "Favorite" the dog(s) that interest you, so that you will be notified when bio or photos are updated.

　　**IMPORTANT**

　　"Companion animal" means, needs at least one other friendly, playful dog that lives in the same household.

　　"Fenced yard" means, a backyard that is adjacent to and connected with your residence. (It does not mean a nearby fenced area/dog park.)

　　Gates must have padlocks and thresholds (cement or buried pavers to prevent digging.)

　　Yard and patio must be free of debris and have room for dogs to run and play on a lawn and/or a very shaded area.

　　We do not place dogs in situations where there are "drained" or empty swimming pools, which are a fall hazard and contribute to the propogation of mosquitos.

　　We DO NOT adopt to students as we have found that they often do not know or anticipate where life is taking them next.

　　Dogs remain posted while we screen potential adopters. As long as dog is designated "Available" we continue to accept applications.

　　We are staffed by all volunteers and use an application protocol to handle all inquiries about adoptable dogs. This system enables an efficiency that allows us to save and care for more dogs. Discussion about a dog - including scheduling of a home check or other dialogue - cannot occur until we have received your completed adoption application. NO EXCEPTIONS. Thank you!
