My story
Pen will be your best friend!
Hi, pals! My name is Penelope. I’m a goofy, cuddly girl with a heart of gold. I’m a 2 years old terrier mix. When I was rescued from the LA shelter, I was skin and bones and only 32 pounds. I’m up in the 40 lbs range now, which is such pawsitive pawgress!
The reason I’m so happy about the extra lbs is because I have a condition called Megaesophagus. Basically, my esophagus doesn’t coordinate the movement of food into my stomach properly, causing regurgitation. My condition was causing me to literally starve to death in the shelter because I wasn’t able to get the care that I need to be a happy, healthy girl. I’ve been able to pack on the pounds by eating in a Bailey Chair for about 35 minutes. I also take a few meds: Sucralfate (~$15.00 per month), Sildenafil (~$5-10.00 per month), and Pimobendan (~$108.00 per month). My condition should be rechecked in January as well as an echocardiogram, blood pressure, and ECG/EKG. I know it sounds like a lot, but once we get into a routine, we will be working like a well-oiled machine! I’m such a sweet girl and I’m totally worth it!
I’m a super friendly gal who adores all doggos and humans, kiddos too. I’m currently living with a doodle and we are absolute best buds. I love playing with other pooches and get along with everyone that I meet! I desperately want to be friends with the cat in my foster home, but I come on a bit strong. I love getting out for walks and exploring. Sometimes the city sounds spook me, but once I get to know the neighborhood I’m comfortable. Even though I enjoy some exercise, I’m a relatively mellow girl. What I love most of all is CUDDLES. I will smother you with snuggles if you let me!
I’m a good girl who is bathroom, house, leash, and crate trained. Talk about a pawfect angel! Due to my condition, I do regurgitate (think little spit-ups, not total vomit) on a daily basis if I play too hard, get too excited, etc. My goofy personality and huge heart make me well worth it!
When I was starving in the shelter, unable to keep my own food down, I was the most miserable pooch. Since being rescued, I’m so appreciative of my second chance at life and I make sure that you know how much I love you! I need a special person who will be patient with my feeding and will monitor my health. However, I’m also a special girl who will bring so much joy to your life! I would do well with other dogs or kids. I’m such a sweet lady that I’d fit in with any home that can give me the love and care that I need. So what do you say? Give me the furever home that I’ve always dreamed of and adopt me today! My adoption fee is $450 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/
